Thousands Take Part in World Water Day Celebration –
To commemorate World Water Day on March 22, as well as to provide early education on environment, Vanaprastha environmental activists plan to hold a long walk and a seminar titled, "Save Water Fun Walk" in Jakarta, Indonesia. As many as 4,000 senior high school students are anticipated to participate in the activities designed to raise water awareness. The Save Water Fun Walk 2011 is scheduled to coincide with the celebration of World Water Day, as an attempt to draw public attention to the importance of clean water and the management of sustainable water resources.

ISH 2011, March 15-19: Innovative Solutions for Conserving Water Resources –
The responsible use of water is one of the world’s most important environmental targets. Today, more than a billion people have no access to clean drinking water and 2.5 billion have no or only inadequate sanitation facilities. At ISH 2011, held March 15-19, sustainability will be one of the focal-point themes when more than 2,300 manufacturers present their latest products for innovative bathrooms, sustainable sanitation solutions and environmentall- friendly building services technology at a fully booked-up Exhibition Centre in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Additionally, the subject of sustainability will be taken up and expanded upon by the Blue Responsibility campaign, part of the extensive ISH program.

Student-Made Device Could Bring Clean Water to the World –
"Right now, there is a massive worldwide shortage of clean drinking water. People in countries like Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, Madagascar, and Haiti only have access to the dirtiest water in the world. But students from the University of Washington may have come up with a solution, and all it will cost is $3.40 each," reports Network World. The solution involves a process known as SODIS (solar disinfection of water), a process that removes 99.9 percent of bacteria and viruses. Read the full article here.

Phoenix Campaign to Conserve, Celebrate Water –
Arizona's Salt River Project (SRP) has launched “Together We Conserve," a multi-media campaign to educate local residents in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area about SRP and their role as the largest water provider. The website offers water-conservation tips and information about how SRP works with others to manage this precious resource. The campaign theme will shift to "Together We Celebrate" in the days leading up to the 100th anniversary of Roosevelt Dam. On March 18, an event will be held to celebrate the dedication of the dam, its role in the development of the Salt River Valley and the water-conservation role it still plays in storing water at Roosevelt Lake, the foundation of SRP’s water-management operations. 2010 Water Disclosure Global Report –
CDP Water Disclosure, a new program from the Carbon Disclosure Project, reports that "39% of companies are already experiencing detrimental impacts relating to water including disruption to operations from drought or flooding, declining water quality necessitating costly on-site pre-treatment, and increases in water prices, as well as fines and litigation relating to pollution incidents. Water security is already high on the corporate agenda with 67% reporting responsibility for water-related issues at the board or executive committee level. The majority of companies (89%) have already developed specific water policies, strategies and plans, and 60% have set water-related performance targets."

Effort stomps out dirty water –
Karl Johnson, of Columbia, Mo., has enough shoes to fill a storage unit. While a collection of shoes is often seen as a symbol of excess and vanity, Johnson collects donations for Shoeman Water Projects, which resells the shoes and uses that money to buy equipment to provide clean water in Africa. Shoeman Water Projects uses the approximately 60 cents per pound it receives for the donated shoes to buy well-drilling rigs, water-purification systems and hand pump repair equipment to provide clean drinking water. Reduction in Lead Bill is Signed into Law –
Plumbing Manufacturers International is pleased to announce that the national "Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act" was passed on December 17, 2010 during the lame duck session and was signed into law by President Barak Obama on January 4, 2011. President Signs Boxer Bill into Law –
"Today, President Obama signed S. 3874, a bipartisan bill that will help eliminate lead from drinking water, into law. The legislation, sponsored by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, and co-sponsored by Ranking Member, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), strengthens and clarifies standards to protect people from toxic lead in drinking water by uniformly reducing the allowable lead content in drinking water pipes, pipe fittings and plumbing fixtures."
